Install

Hookline and Hookline Studio need After Effects 2022 or newer and run on Windows only for now. A Mac version comes later.

After you start your trial, an email arrives with your licence key and a download link for the Windows installer (a ZIP file).

1. Download the ZIP and unzip it.
2. Close After Effects.
3. Run INSTALL_Windows.bat.
4. Open After Effects and go to Window › Extensions › Hookline. For Studio, it is Window › Extensions › Hookline Studio.
5. Hookline Studio only: allow file access once. In After Effects, go to Edit › Preferences › Scripting & Expressions, tick Allow Scripts to Write Files and Access Network and click OK. No restart needed. Studio saves your presets, looks and render helper files to your computer, so it needs this setting. Hookline (captions) doesn't need it.

Activate your licence

The first time you open the panel, it shows an activation screen. Paste the licence key from your email and confirm.

• One key works on up to 2 computers.
• The panel checks your subscription each time it starts. It keeps working offline for up to 7 days after the last successful check.
• If your subscription ends, the panel locks and shows a Renew subscription button.

Move to a new computer

1. On the old computer, open the panel settings and click Deactivate this computer.
2. Install the panel on the new computer and paste the same key.

If the old computer is gone or broken and you can't deactivate it, email us your order email and we will free up the slot.

Troubleshooting

The panel is not in the Window › Extensions menu

Make sure After Effects was closed while INSTALL_Windows.bat ran, then run it again and restart After Effects. Check that you have After Effects 2022 or newer.

The key is already active on 2 computers

If the panel says the key is already active on 2 computers, deactivate one of them from its panel settings, then activate again. No access to it? Email us.

The panel asks me to go online

It has been more than 7 days since the last subscription check. Connect to the internet and reopen the panel.

The panel is locked with "Renew subscription"

A payment failed or your subscription has ended. If the subscription is still active or paused in the customer portal (the link is in your Lemon Squeezy receipt email), update the card there. If it has ended, start a new subscription from Pricing.

Cancel, change card or get an invoice

Payments run through Lemon Squeezy. Your receipt email has a link to the customer portal, where you can cancel, change your card and download invoices. Cancel before day 7 of the free trial and you are not charged.
